Tattersalls Book 1 Yearling Sale Preview Best Bred Lots (Part 1)

Tattersalls has well established itself as Europe's premier sale. The annual Tattersalls October Yearling Sale has been a colossus. Last year saw one of the highest ever yearlings sold in Europe when Hydrogen sold to David Redvers for £2,500,000. The list of Group 1 winners produced from this sale is endless. Some of the top horses sold at the Book 1 sale included Camelot, Imperial Monarch, Joshua Tree, St Nicholas Abbey etc. This years sale again sees some top quality lots set to go through the ring. The following lots are some of the "best bred" yearlings set to be auctioned in October.

Lot 42 Bay Colt x Musical Treat (Royal Academy)
Acclamation has well established himself as a very good sire in Europe. He gets some precocious 2yo's with Group 1 winner & sire Dark Angel & Group winning 2yos Harbour Watch & Libourne Lad, both of which are now representing their sire at stud. This colt is also fitted with a tremendous pedigree. He is a half brother to Group 1 winner Finsceal Beo Europe's champion 2yo & 3yo filly & German Guineas winner Frozen Power. Musical Treat has a 2yo colt by Sea The Stars named Lunasea who sold for £500,000 at this sale last year.This colt is consigned by his breeders Rathbarry Stud.

Lot 293 Bay Colt x Black Speck (Arch) 
Bernardini is one of America's most promising young sires where he sired 4 Group 1 winners from his first two crops. This colt is out of blue hen mare Black Speck she is the dam of 6 foals & 5 of racing age with each of her 5 runners being black type winners/performers. Her best known progeny in Europe is UAE derby winner Lines Of Battle who also scored at Listed level in Ireland. She is also dam of Homebound winner of the Group 3 Prix Sandringham in France & Group 1 Prix Jean Luc Lagardere placed Battle Paint as well as french Listed winner Blue Exit. Black Speck herself is a half sister to champion sire Dynaformer & Offlee Wild. This is from the family of US Ranger & Group 2 champagne stakes winner Silent Times. The only yearling by his American based sire in Book 1. Blame's first American yearlings were in high demand at Keeneland & this colt is coupled with a fine female family. He is out of Alma Mater a daughter of champion broodmare Alouette. Alouette is the dam of Group 1 winning fillies Albanova & Alborada. Alouette is also the grand dam of 2006 Epsom derby runner up Dragon Dancer. This colt's 3rd dam Alrucabba is the dam of blue hen producers Last Second ( dam of Aussie Rules), Jude ( dam of Group 1 winning fillies Yesterday, All My Loving & Quarter Moon), Approach ( dam of Midas Touch), & Alleluia (dam of Allegretto). Lot 428 Bay Colt x Green Dollar (Kingmambo) 
This colt has the breeding to become a decent 2yo next year. He is an own brother to Group 2 Rockfel Stakes heroine Cape Dollar from his dams only runner to date. His own dam Green Dollar is out of Strawberry Roan an own sister to Oaks winner Imagine and a half sister to dual derby winner Generous. Imagine herself produced cracking 2yo colts Horatio Nelson & Viscount Nelson. This colts 3rd dam is of course Doff The Derby, this is from the family champion mare Moonlight Cloud as well as Group 2 winner Probably.

Lot 435 Bay Colt x Heaven Sent (Pivotal) 
This colt is the 2nd foal out of Heaven Sent. A cracking race mare she never won a Group 1 but was 2nd in some of Europe's top races for mares including the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes & the Group 1 Matron Stakes. Heaven Sent is an own sister to dual Grade 1 winner Megahertz, their other full sister Heavenly Dawn was placed in a Listed race. Heaven Sent's first produce a colt by Dansili realised £200,000 at this sale last year. He is consigned by his breeders Cheveley Park Stud.

Lot 324 Bay/Grey filly x Chiang Mai (Sadler's Wells)
This filly has a very eye catching pedigree. She is a sister to Group 1 Pretty Polly stakes heroine Chinese White & to one time winner the lightly raced Raushan. Chinese White has also produced her first winner as a broodmare with Chinese Jade, a son of Cape Cross he has one race win from only two starts as a 2yo in 2013. This fillies dam Chiang Mai is a half sister to broodmare sensation Rafha. Rafha is of course the dam of champion sire Invincible Spirit & leading 2yo sire Kodiac, as well as Massara dam of Group 1 winner Nayyara Group 1 placed Mars & Group winner Wonderfully. Chiang Mai has a 2yo brother to this filly & Chinese White in Highly Toxic unraced to date. This filly is consigned by her breeders Castlemartin Stud.

Lot 75 Bay Colt x Penang Pearl (Bering)
This colt is sure to turn a few heads with his pedigree. Dansili is no stranger of siring top class horses plus this colt is a brother to world champion Harbinger who in 2010 ran out an impressive 11 length of the Group 1 King George beating derby winners Workforce & Cape Blanco. Harbinger is now a young sire in Japan where his first crop have been warmly received at the sales. Although Penang Pearl has not produced anything of Harbinger's class since then she hasn't had many runners since. This is her 2nd produce by Dansili. Harbinger himself made £180,000 as a yearling at this sale in 2007, but this yearling colt is sure to well surpass that price. This colt is consigned by Ashbrittle Stud.

Lot 441 Bay Colt x High Heeled (High Chaparral)
This colt is the first foal of multiple Group winner & Group 1 placed High Heeled. High Heeled herself created waves when selling for £600,000 to London Thoroughbred Services at the 2009 December Mare Sale. High Heeled is a daughter of American stakes winner Uncharted Haven. Uncharted Haven is the grand dam of Irish 1000 guineas winner Just The Judge. He is consigned by Stowell Hill Stud.

Lot 492 Grey Colt x Last Second (Alzao)
A half brother to French 2000 guineas winner Aussie Rules and to the dam of Midas Touch. This colt is related to Lot 254. He is also related to St Leger 3rd Michelangelo. His dam is a half sister to star producers Alleluia, Jude, & Allouette this colt could be one of the star lots by his sire. Two years ago his half sister Gooseberry Fool sold for £440,000 at the December sale. While in 2005 his half brother by Kingmambo was a star attraction selling for £1,250,000.

Lot 439 Chesnut Colt x Hidden Siler (Anaaba)
Yearlings by Dubawi were all the rage at the recent Arqana yearling sale where the highest price went to E1,500,000 for a half sister to dual derby runner up Memphis Tennessee. His stock are expected to be in as high demand at this sale and this colt could prove a top lot for his sire. He is a half brother to French 2000 guineas winner Silver Frost. Hidden Silver is a half sister to black type winners Homeland, High Rock & Hideaway, while Hideaway is the grand dam of Listed placed High Flash. His 2nd dam Hint of Silver is a half sister to American Graded winner Black Question & French Listed winner High Silver, she in turn is grand dam of stakes winner Providanza. This colt is out of Grade 1 Diana stakes heroine Sand Springs. His dam Sand Springs is the dam of four winners from 4 foals of racing age including black type winners Our Entourage a graded winner in the states & Mellon Martini a Group winner in France. She is also dam of minor winners Polperro & Hot Sand. His fourth dam Olmec is the grand dam of one of the worlds greatest horses in Dancing Brave. This also from the family of Grade 1 Northern Dancer stakes winner Redwood & Group 1 Prix De Diana winner Jolypha.

Lot 36 Bay Filly x Much Faster (Fasliyev)
This filly is out of Group winning 2yo Much Faster who was also 2nd in the Group 1 Prix Morny. Much Faster is already off the mark as a black type producer with Listed winner Sugar Free. Her 2007 produce High Twelve was also fourth in the Group 2 Royal Lodge stakes. Much Faster is also dam of dual 2yo winner Apace. This is from the family of Group 1 winners Continent & Zambezi Sun.

Lot 366 Grey Filly x Dookus (Linamix)
Duke Of Marmalade has made great progress this season. Behind only New Approach on the European 2nd crop sires list he has an impressive tally of 6 stakes winners headed by talented fillies Venus De Milo & Alive Alive Oh. This filly has the breeding to be her sires next star. She is a half sister to US Law a group winner in France, his full brother Itoobeboss was placed on his only start as a 2yo in France in 2013, they are both sons of Lawman. This fillies 2nd dam is Group 1 Phoenix stakes winner Pharoah's Delight. This makes Dookus a half sister to Pharmacist the dam of dual Group 1 winner & leading freshman sire Red Rocks. This filly is consigned by her breeders Ballylinch Stud.

Lot 436 Bay Filly x Helena Molony (Sadler's Wells)
This filly could also be a future star for her sire. Her dam Helena Molony was sold at the December sale in 2006 for £1,100,000. Helena Molony is a sister to dual derby & dual breeders cup turf winner & successful sire High Chaparral as well as Group 2 Dante stakes winner Black Bear Island. Helena Molony's previous foals include Red Hand winner of 1 race and placed 3 times in 2012 & Heavenly Sound winner of her only start in 2013. This fillies half brother by Danehill Dancer made £130,000 at this sale last year.

Lot 282 Bay Colt x Aymara (Darshaan)
Exceed And Excel is the newly crowned champion sire in Australia and to top it off he will be the first stallion to cover Black Caviar. He has some nicely bred yearlings selling this October & this colt catches the eye. His half sister Byrama won a Grade 1 handicap in the states and placed a further 12 times. He is a full brother to Klammer. A stakes winner  in UK & France Klammer has since transferred to Hong Kong where he has won a few races. Hes from the family of freshman sire Winker Watson with stakes winning 2yo Gwydion further back in the family.

Lot 143 Chesnut Colt x Sharp Terms (Kris
This colt is a brother to Group 3 Lowther Stakes & Group 2 Queen Mary stakes victress Best Terms. He is also a half sibling to Sunsemperchi who was placed in a Group 3 in Milan. Sunsemperchi later produced Italian Group 3 winner Faciascura. The next dam is By Charter was a high class mare at stud producing stakes winners First Charter, Anton Chekhov, Private Charter & Ridge Runner. The 3rd dam is the high class race mare and broodmare Time Charter. She becam champion older mare in UK in 1983.  At stud she produced two Group 2 Jockey Club stakes winners in Zinaad & Time Allowed. Further back in the family is Group 3 Musidora stakes winner Time Away & her Group 2 winning son Time on.

Lot 148 Bay Colt x Simply Times (Dodge)
This colt is a brother to Premier Excel a winner of 2 races as a 4yo in Germany & placed a further 9 times. His dam is better known as the producer of multiple stakes winners Welsh Emperor, Majestic Times. Simply Times is also the grand dam of Group 1 Cheveley Park stud stakes placed Sunday Times & her half sister the Listed placed Question Time.

Lot 468 Chesnut Colt x Kangra Valley (Indian Ridge)
This colt is a half brother to champion 2yo filly & black type producer Airwave. Airwave won 6 races from 2 to 5 years her biggest success coming in the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stud stakes. She was also 2nd in the Group 1 Golden Jubilee & 3rd in the Darley July Cup. Airwave has since produced black type winners Aloof & her Listed winning half sister Meow. Another half sibling to this colt is Listed and recent Group 1 Nunthorpe stakes winner Jwala. His other half sister Vasilia like Airwave has produced black type performers at stud including Group 3 Solario stakes runner up  SilverHeels & the Listed placed Lasilia.

Lot 55 Bay Filly x Nightime (Galileo)
This filly is the third foal out of Group 1 Irish 1000 guineas winner Nightime. She has produced Listed placed Sleeping Beauty while her 2nd foal New Years Night sold for £800,000 at this sale last year. His 2nd dam Caumshinaun was champion older mare in Ireland. Along with Nightime, Caumshinaun produced Listed winner Mermaid Island. Further back in the family is high class American turf runner Kings Drama.

Lot 90 Bay Colt x Pride (Peintre Celebre)
This foal is the fourth produce of his high class dam who was champion older mare in France & Europe. She won 3 Group 1 races in England, France & Hong Kong. Pride's first produce All By Myself has won 1 race in France and placed a further 4 times. Pride is a half sister to Specifically the dam of 2006 1000 Guineas winner Speciousa & her Grade 3 winning half brother Major Rhythm. Specifically is also the grand dam of Irish Derby placed Festive Cheer. Further back in the family is Group 1 Irish Leger winner Touching Wood & Grade 3 winner/ Grade 1 placed African Dancer.

This colt is the only by his sire catalogued in the Book 1 sale. He has the pedigree to play a big part. He is a half brother to Louvain a black type winner in US. Louvain is the dam of dual Group 1 winner the high class filly Flotilla winner of the french 1000 guineas & Breeders Cup juvenile fillies turf. Flanders herself is a half sister to the dam of dual Group 1 winning sprinter the high class Lethal Force and also to the dam of Group 1 Prix Morny runner up Family One.

Lot 11 Bay Colt x Mauralakana (Muhtathir) 
This colt is the 3rd produce and 2nd foal by Champion sire Galileo from his dam Mauralakana. She herself won the Grade 1 Beverly D stakes in America and a multiple Graded winner in America. Mauralakana's first foal Calissa won 1 race this year as a 3yo and has been placed a further 3 times in 2013. She also has a 2yo unraced brother to this yearling colt. Mauralakana is a half sister to French black type winner Petit Calva. His dam Native Force is out of a half sister to Group 3 Irish Guineas Trial winner and Group 1 Irish Guineas runner up Les Meninas. This is from the family of Australian Group 1 winner Aqua D'Amour. She is a half sister to Group 3 winner Legend Maker who is the dam of Group 1 1000 guineas winner Virginia Waters & her full brother Group 1 Irish Derby placed Alexander Of Hales as well as high class 2yo colt Chevalier. Another of Legend Makers offspring is Canterbury Lace later the dam of Group 1 Matron stakes winner Chachamaidee.
