First Season Sire Focus: Archipenko

Archipenko has to be one of the most regally bred sires in the world a winner of six of his seventeen starts including 5 group races in three continents Archipenko now stands at Lanwades Stud in UK.

Archipenko won one race at two from three starts trained in Ballydoyle at the time. At three Archipenko won the Group two Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial his only success that year, later that year he was sold to join Mike De Kock's stable in SA there as a four year old he won the Grade one Queen Elizabeth II cup and was a multiple Graded winner in SA and Hong Kong.

He  has superb breeding by leading American stallion Kingmambo, he is out of regally bred mare Bound a Nijinsky three parts sister to champion sire Nureyev and Fairy Bridge the dam of world class sires Sadler's Wells and Fairy King.

Archipenko's 2nd dam is of course Special the dam of Nureyev and Fairy Bridge, she is also dam of US sire Jade Robbery, Numerous and Add the dam of Group winning Lizard Island. Through Special Archipenko is from the family of Corinthian, and 2011 BC winner Wrote.

The 3rd dam Thong is the dam of another champion sire and Irish Champion two year old in Thatch she is also dam of King Pellinore a multiple US Grade one winner, this is from the family of Irish 2,000 guineas winner Bachelor Duke as well as German champion and sire Soldier Hollow and Japanese champion El Condor Passa, and also Group winners Festive Hall and Docksider.

Archipenko's first crop are two year olds this season with some nice athletic individuals his first yearling sold for prices of £64,000, £50,000, £47,000, £32,000 etc. they averaged over 4x his fee. Archipenko is a sire that strikes me because of his classic pedigree which is full of top class horses, sires and broodmare's too numerous to mention.

I do think he should get some juvenile winners and it will be interesting to see how his progeny progress on. Archipenko will have around Forty Six two year olds representing him for 2013 and I would be surprised if he doesn't get a winner, going by his pedigree he has the makings to be a top sire and hopefully he can make a name for himself at stud. A lovely individual with a magnificent pedigree Archipenko has it all to do for himself this season.
