Red Clubs the loss of a highly promising young stallion

Today was a great day for Tally Ho Stud in Mullingar as their homebred filly Sky Lantern won the Group one 1,000 guineas at Newmarket on the back of winning the Group one Moyglare Stud Stakes as a two year old, however today was also a reminder to Tally Ho at just how much of a loss their former sire Red Clubs will be to the breeding industry.

Red Clubs retired to Tally Ho in 2008 after a successful career which saw him become on of Europe's best sprinters. He was a very precocious two year old winning the Group two Coventry Stakes at Ascot and ran a fine second in the Middle Park Stakes Group One and was third in the Phoenix Stakes. At three Red Clubs won the Group two Diadem stakes and also the Group three Greenham. As a four year old Red Clubs showed his best form winning his first Group one in the Sprint Cup he also was placed in the Group one Golden Jubilee, the Nunthorphe Stakes and the July Cup he proved to be an outstanding sprinter.

Red Clubs was by Red Ransom out of Two Clubs a mare by First Trump, Two Clubs was a high class mare herself winning the Group one Middle Park Stakes and the Group two Richmond, her best form came as a two year old, Red Clubs remains her only black type winner to date.

Red Clubs 2nd dam Miss Cindy is a full sister to top class sprinter Petong, she is the dam of 8 winners with Two Clubs her most precocious foal, she is also grand dam of stakes winners Joint Aspiration and Online Investor.

His 3rd dam Iridium is the dam of top sprinters Petong, Maestro Checco, this is from the family of Germany's best sire and also world class sire Monsun.

Red Clubs first foals made prices of E82,000 and £54,000, he sired 34 individual two year old winners in 2011, his best offspring from his first two crops are Group one/Group winners Vedelago ,The Gold Cheongsam, Ceiling Kitty and Sky Lantern, Sky Lantern and Ceiling kitty were both among his second crop and Sky Lantern is already a dual Group one winner at two and three while Ceiling Kitty won the Group two Queen Mary Stakes.

Red Clubs died in 2011 as a result of an injury he sustained while covering a mare at Tally Ho his premature death has become something of a loss to the breeding industry as there is a question surrounding him as to what else could he have produced at stud with The Racing Post commenting that "the premature death of Red Clubs has robbed the industry of a highly promising young stallion."
