Freshman Sires: Captain Gerrard

Captain Gerrard ran a remarkable 10 times as a two year old winning five of them including the Group three Cornwalls Stakes at Ascot he was also a multiple Listed winner and finished placed in the Molecomb Stakes and Flying Childers Stakes. At three Captain Gerrard won the Group three palace house stakes, and was fourth in the Group two Prix Du Grois Chene at Chantilly. He didn't manage to win at four but was placed in some Group races and was fourth in the Group one Kings Stand Stakes.

Captain Gerrard is a son of leading sire Oasis Dream out of the Soviet Star mare Delphinus. Delphinus is the dam of Group two placed and Hong Kong Listed winner Saturn, Captain Gerrard is also a half brother to useful sprinter Glocca Morra.

His 2nd dam Scimitarra won three races at two and three years she is the dam of four winners including minor winners Deserve and Relativity. Through his third dam Fanghorn Captain Gerrard is from the family of some outstanding horses including Double Form, Smaoineamh, Eva Luna, Sholokov, Soldier Of Fortune Chuis Ghaire and Intense Focus.

Captain Gerrard retired to stand at Mickley Stud in the UK at a fee of £3,500 he covered over 100 mares in his first year. Captain Gerrard struck me as a beautiful looking horse capable of siring two year old winners, his own sire Oasis Dream in my opinion is an extremely exciting sire of sires in the making with some outstanding quality sire sons at stud including Captain Gerrard.

Captain Gerrards first yearlings made prices of £20,000 £19,000 etc which was a bargain considering at the moment he is firing in the juvenile winners and currently leads the Freshman Sire List with four individual winners Captain Gerrard failed to win a Group one but that doesn't mean his progeny wont, hes sure to get very speedy types and this is a sire to watch out for as the season progresses.
